BRAD TUPMAN, the Halifax, Huddersfield Union stroke-play champion, makes his debut for the Union side who open their Yorkshire Inter-Union League campaign against Leeds at Wetherby.
It presents what team chief Chris Mear says will be a stern test, although hopes are high.
Mear said: “We are all looking forward to it and hopeful of a good day and an improvement on the result against Leeds last season which was also away at Howley Hall when Leeds won 23-13.
“Brad Tupman is relishing the challenge and with Frank Greaves, the holder of the Order of Merit again in fine form, plus Chris Ingham having returned and Steve Martin being available, the team is probably the strongest I could have selected.”
Tupman, who carried off the PS Cockroft last season with rounds of 73 72 at West End, winning by two shots, has four Fixby clubmates in the team, while West End provides four members.
The line-up is Richard Broadley, Andy Shaw, Jim Fairhurst, Brad Tupman, Danny Stocchero (all Huddersfield), Sam Bridges, Steve Martin, Frank Greaves, Chris Ingham (all West End), Iain Powell (Hebden Bridge), Graham McLean (Meltham), Ben Crowther (Dewsbury).
Once again golf ball sponsors to the team are Danlett & Brewfitt, while Stromberg continue as clothing sponsors.
Leeds lack their champion of last season, Waterton Park’s Darren Calvo, a police officer who is unavailable, but have a strong side out, half of the players having appeared for Yorkshire.
Leeds: D Appleyard (South Leeds), R Law (Low Laithes), S Coumbe (Pontefract), A Smith (Garforth), L Maguire, G Johnson, L Morrisroe (all Howley Hall), A Webster (Moor Allerton), S Cain (Scarcroft), D Walton (Wakefield), S Appleton (Mid Yorkshire), A Wiltshire (Pontefract).
