MELTHAM’S Steve Whiteley was the main man in this week’sWednesday Golf Society competition at Marsden, were 33 members took part.
When many competitors found the gusting Hemplow wind was playing havoc with their golf balls on the greens, 12-handicapper Whiteley took the Division I prize with 32 points, one ahead of Outlane’s Neil Morrison.
In Division II, home club plahyer Keith Bruce came in with the day’s best haul, 34 points, two clear of Bradley Park’s John Sheard.
The Marsden event also marked the Society’s annual general meeting, at which Meltham’s David Law was awarded the prestigious ‘Golfer-of-the-Year’ Trophy after averaging an excellent 36 points during the season.
The next meeting is at Outlane, on April 7.
