WILLOW VALLEY Ladies beat off the challenge of 50 teams throughout the county to win the Yorkshire Ladies County Association’s ADP tournament at Rudding Park.
Having got down to the last four, Linda Burnley, Diane Greenwood and Denise Page represented Willow Valley in the semi-finals against Thirsk and Northallerton, and eventually came out 2-1 winners after two of the three games went to extra holes.
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Headingley defeated Calverley, also by a 2-1 scoreline to set up the final clash with Willow Valley.
The Clifton club sent out a different trio of players in the final, led by skipper Janet Tedstone and Audra Barlow.
But after the first two matches, the final was balanced at 1-1, leaving 19-year-old Bianca Skelly to notch the winning point for Willow Valley.
Tedstone paid tribute to her winning squad of six who have represented the club this season, saying: “This is a fantastic achievement for a committed and talented group of players who were proud to represent Willow Valley in this competition.”
The Wednesday Golf Society, whose next meeting is at Elland on Wednesday, held their latest competition at Outlane, the results were:
Division I: 1 Roy Johnson (Meltham) 14handicap 39points, 2 David Law (Meltham) 9-38, 3 Stephen Braithwaite 15-34.
Division II: 1 Jake Smith (Outlane) 16-38, 2 Alan Harper (Marsden) 17-34.
