Chris Hanson is hoping to make the third cut in his fourth event as a full European Tour cardholder when he embarks on the Joburg Open in South Africa today.
The Huddersfield professional attached to Woodsome Hall picked up 3,100 Euroes at the weekend after finishing Tied 59th in the BMW SA Open at Glendower GC near Johannesburg.
Hanson, who played the last five holes to six under par to make the cut, eventually finished three over par, so he is looking to improve on that in the next four days at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club.
Hanson said: “It was a week of many ups and downs, but a pretty special finish on the Saturday.”
Of that achievement – four birdies and an eagle – the European Tour tweeted: “When you’re one shot outside the cut mark with five holes to go ... take a bow Chris Hanson.”
Since earning his full Tour card at the final Qualifying School in Spain, Hanson has competed in three of the four events so far, missing the cut just once.
That was in the Australian PGA Championship, when he missed out by just one stroke after being seven over par for two rounds.
At Glendower last week, he had rounds of 74 and 67 (including that brilliant finish) to make the cut and then followed up with a 76 and another 74.
