LONGLEY PARK drew first blood when they landed the first piece of silverware of the new Union season after clinching the Nine-Hole Clubs Championship at Hebden Bridge.

The Aspley club were represented by the Colcombe brothers, Matthew and Adam, along with John Doherty, and they combined for a score of 213, just one stroke better than Hanging Heaton and hosts Hebden Bridge.

Matt Colcombe (1) and John Doherty (9) came home with a pair of 69s, while Adam (5) had a round of 75 for the winning trio. Hanging Heaton came in second on countback from Hebden Bridge, thanks to Paul Ratcliffe’s stunning 66.

However, that was matched by Todmorden’s Dave Stafford, who took the Best Nett prize with a better back nine than Ratcliffe.

Stafford, who plays off two, also had the best gross score (68), but being unable to take two prizes, that went to Matt Colcombe (70).
