IT’S been a busy week at Dewsbury District with the club hosting two major events in four days.

Spectators were treated to some low-scoring golf as professionals and amateurs battled it out alongside each other for prizes.

First on the tee were the players in the 33rd Yorkshire PGA-backed Pro Am competition.

Thirty six teams, each with a PGA professional, played for team prizes, a professional’s prize and nearest the pin.

A to Z Business Management Consultants sponsored a Hole in One prize, but managed to hang on to their money as nobody achieved that elusive goal.

The Professional Prize was won by Alex Belt from the De Vere Club with a six under par score of 65 – Belt (pictured) last won the event in 2010 with a 63.

The second event was the Whitley Cup held last Saturday and for the first time this was a qualifying event for the Yorkshire Order of Merit, sponsored by Eagle Golf (Leeds).

A field of 60 entered the 36-hole competition and the consensus was that the course was in excellent condition and the event had been well organised.

Members from all sections of the club took on roles ranging from starter, ball spotters on blind holes and scorers to help keep the day flowing, with the result that rounds took around three and three-quarter hours.

Winner was Matthew Colcombe from Woodsome Hall, whose father was also a low-scoring player in his day, and Matthew’s younger brother Adam also played and is a member at Dewsbury District.
