MEGAN LOCKETT’S international career continues to go from strength to strength after a number of outstanding performances both in the Girls Home Internationals and in Europe.

Last month, the Huddersfield Golf Club junior played for Wales in the Girls European Team Championship at St Leon Rot in Germany before competing in the European Young Masters in Hungary, when she posted the leading score of 73 gross on the first day.

Lockett went on to finish the tournament joint 11th and was the leading GB and Ireland player.

While playing in Hungary she received a message telling her she had been selected to play in the Girls Home Internationals at Raydr Golf Club in Wales, where she played in all six matches, winning four of them.

She won three of her foursomes matches, along with partner Jess Evans, from Newport, and one of her singles matches against Ireland.

She was consequently contacted by the Welsh Lady captain Jill Evans, informing her she had been selected as the first reserve (non-travelling) for the Ladies Home Internationals to be staged at Cork Golf Club in early September.

On top of that on the domestic front, Lockett won the Best Gross prize in the Huddersfield Junior Open, shooting a score of 74 and reducing her handicap to 3.3.

She is also a member of Fixby’s Ladies Scratch team, who finished top of the Yorkshire Ladies Inter-Club Scratch League, and she is looking forward to playing in the finals day at Wetherby, on September 6, when they meet Woodsome Hall in the semi-finals.
