Meltham golfer Jamie Bower has been selected for the England team to compete for the Eisenhower Trophy in the World Amateur Team Championships in Mexico next month.

British Amateur champion Scott Gregory and Alfie Plant will team up with Bower – all three were members of the GB&I team which retained the St Andrews Trophy against the Continent of Europe last month and of the England team which beat France in this season’s biennial international

The 23-year-old from Meltham won the English men’s open stroke play for the Brabazon Trophy and reached the last 16 in the Amateur Championship at Royal Porthcawl.

Earlier this season he won twice in South Africa, in the Gauteng North Amateur and the Southern Cape Open, and was third in the African Open.

The championship will be played at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club and Mayakoba El Camaleion Golf Club. The Espirito Santo Trophy takes place from September 21-24.

The final of the Lawrence Batley Senior League competition will be between Huddersfield and Hanging Heaton.

The showdown will take place on Friday at Halifax’s West End club with the match teeing off at 12.15.

The Fixby club earned their place in the final with a comfortable 6-2 win over Woodsome Hall at Hebden Bridge.

The other last four game proved a light tighter as Hanging Heaton had a narrow 5-3 victory over Crow Nest Park to set up a repeat of the 2014 final.
