It’s been a busy end-of-season for the District’s juniors with tournaments reaching their conclusion - and a couple of nail biting finishes.
The Halifax and Huddersfield Junior Leagues play-off final went to the very last putt on the 18th hole.
Eventually Outlane just got the better of a Meltham.
Tom Wimpenny had given Outlane the first win with a last-hole victory over Tom Hunt, but then Meltham’s Cam Whitwam played a superb game to get the better of Ryan Lawton 4&3 to level the tie.
However, a 5&4 win for Jessica Hirst put Outlane back in front and then came the last match with Meltham’s Nathan Shears and Outlane’s Joe Hainsworth.
With the match resting on who could win the last and both players on the edge of the green in three, eventually Outlane emerged with a 5-3 win after a most exciting match.
Outlane beat Castlefields and Meltham beat West End (semis).
The Huddersfield Junior Open, the last in the Halifax and Huddersfield Junior Order of Merit, was won by Bradley Park’s Harry Dews.
He was the only player to beat par with a 69 and a five-shot margin. In second place was Ryan Lawton from Outlane, with Huddersfield’s Ben Walker taking third slot on 76.
In the seven-hole non-Congu event it was a Crosland Heath double, with Zac Holroyd’s 15 points pipping clubmate Simon Rushworth by a point. Best Gross: Z Saeed, Northcliffe, 73, T Osborne, Lindrick, 76, H Mowl, Crow Nest, 83.
The Oldham Evening Chronicle Junior Golf competition at Saddleworth was special for Outlane.
Eleven-year-old Joe Beeby won the Under-14 title with 87.
Clubmate Ryan Lawton had a nervous wait in the main event as he was lying in third place with only one group left on the course and it was the very last player who pipped him by one for a prize.
