THERE is still time to enter this year’s Examiner Matchplay Golf tournament!

With several regular entrants unable to meet the previous deadline, due to being already involved on a Mediterranean golfing holiday, the closing date has been extended to a week on Monday, April 28.

The first round draw will then be made on Tuesday the 29th and published in the Examiner the following day, while all competitors will also receive details through the post.

This year the first prize is a FREE place on the Examiner Overseas Challenge, which is going to the Algarve in Portugal, leaving on November 6 for a seven-night stay in Lagos.

The prize is worth almost £700, and the Matchplay winner will be joining the party.

The Matchplay final is being staged this year at the picturesque Woodsome Hall course, when the four semi-finalists will battle it out in the morning with the winners contesting the final in the afternoon, along with a third and fourth place play-off.

Prizes will also be presented to the runners-up.

The price of entry to the event has been held at £20, and this year, all the first round matches will be played on a home and away basis, therefore guaranteeing a least two rounds of golf for each of the competitors.

The remaining rounds will be a straightforward knockout over one round at the course of the first-named player in the draw, who will be responsible for arranging a date to play the tie which is suitable to both parties, and comes within the timescale set for the completion of each round.

The tournament is open to both men and women over the age of 18 with an official handicap.

All entrants will be notified by post along with competition rules.

The competition’s first prize is probably one of the most valuable up for grabs for local amateur golfers, and unlike similar tournaments run by other newspapers, the Examiner winners will go to Portugal for the week’s golfing holiday, and will not have to go forward to regional or national stages in order to win the ultimate prize.
