Alliance president Darren Arber won the final meeting of the year at Halifax Ogden Golf Club partnered by Dean Bradley (10), of West End, they carded a 47 from a late start to overtake Tom Wild and Gary Ward (6), of Bradley Park, by one shot.

They were joined on the same score by Richard Lambert and Alan Dyson (6) of Crosland Heath who started at the 16th tee. Also starting at the 16th were the AmAm winners Tony Gerrard (6) and John Broadbent (12), of the home club.

Their 47 points passed the early clubhouse leaders Mick Hanson (12) and Olly Barstow (7), of Bradley Park, who were holding a lead on countback from Outlane’s John Lawton and Steve Beeby, both six handicappers.

The course was in very good condition although wet from the earlier rains. The sunny and surprisingly windless conditions, combined with the forward tees led to some low scoring.

Arber and Bradley had a net eagle and nine net birdies (seven gross), while Lambert and Dyson posted 10 net birdies (seven gross), with Wild and Ward also carding 10 net birdies (six gross).

First out Neal Reeves and Mark Birkett (scr), of Stadium Golf, made a fine start with five birdies in the first six holes, but ended with 43 points and fourth place in the ProAm.

In the AmAm Gerrard and Broadbent had three net eagles and six net birdies, and Hanson and Barstow had two net eagles and six net birdies.

Lawton and Beeby, and Jimmy Caine (5), parntered with Jarrad Hazelden (3) had two and five to finish fourth on 44 points, tied with Jamie Smith (scr) and John Jennings (5) with nine birdies.

At the end of the year, Rob Booth is still the clear leader of the Order of Merit on 33 points with Richard Lambert and Tom Wild tied on 20 points. Crosland Heath now lead the Club Championship on 215 points, from Outlane, 210, and Meltham, 205.

The Ogden Alliance was so well supported with 58 pairs, that a two-tee start was needed to get everyone finished before dark.

The Alliance restarts in 2015 at Crosland Heath Golf Club on Tuesday, February 24.
