THE weather failed to dampen the spirits of Crow Nest Park Golf Club members when all sections took part in rabbits captain Tony Hereford’s day.

As well as the Rabbit Captain’s Day Cup, there were competitions for the ladies, juniors and tigers as well as a putting event, all of them closely contested.

The Captain’s Cup went to Paul Scothorne.

Nigel Wood was runner-up and John Queenan took third place. Simon Ireland was nearest the pin and Steve Yendely hit the longest drive.

Carole Hampson was the ladies’ winner, with vice-captain Helen Pearson second and Barbara Horrocks third.

Ruth Wilson was nearest the pin and Mandy Widdop the straightest driver.

Adam Wadsworth took both the first plrize and longest drive in the tigers section, with Martin Thomas second and club captain Raj Panesar third.

Steve McDonagh was nearest the pin.

In the junior event, Jordan Fulton took first place from Ryan Jones and Scott Henry.

Ben Adamson was nearest the pin and longest driver.

Jones was helped into second spot by holing in one on the par three eighth.

That made it an expensive day for his father and committee member Steve.

Jim Gray won the putting competition, with Peter Horrocks second.

At the presentation, Hereford congratulated the winners and said it concluded a tremendous week for the club, as along with Horrocks, John Cryer and David Hawkesworth, the rabbits captain was in the team which won the Halifax, Huddersfield Rabbit Association’s President’s Trophy for the first time in the Hove Edge club’s history.

Huddersfield beat Cookridge Hall 4½ to 2½ in their latest Yorkshire Ladies’ Inter-club Team Championship fixture.

There were wins for Brenda Robertshaw, Val Thornborrow, Peta Oxley and Jackie Elam.

Meanwhile Geraldine Stocchero halved her match.
