HALF Yorkshire’s team in the Northern Counties Seniors Championship are from Huddersfield!

Fixby duo John Oxley and David Thornborrow (both six handicap) are joined by Bob Wallace of Crosland Heath (off two).

The others in the six-man team are Mike Kelley, the former England captain and Walker Cup player from Ganton (handicap plus one), Rod Shimwell (Hessle, 3) and David Slingsby (Hallowes, 3).

It is played as an individual event – at Fairhaven on Tuesday and Wednesday – with the best five scores to count on each day in what is a very hotly contested competition.

After finishing second and third, Yorkshire are looking to score their first victory in the Northern Counties and to go on to the national championships later in the year.

Oxley is in fine form, having finished second to Kelley in the Yorkshire seniors, while Wallace and Thornborrow were tied fourth.
