A WOODSOME HALL duo triumphed at the Halifax, Huddersfield and District Union Fourball Betterball Championship.
Andy Lister (9 handicap) and former Yorkshire cricketer Matthew Wood (11) took the title with a blistering score of 63 in sunny and benign conditions at Crosland Heath.
Two shots behind were the Bradley Hall pairing of J Smith (1) and L Hopkinson (12). West End’s James Dix (9) and Paul Thrush (19) came in third with 67 points, the same as Crosland Heath’s N Bell (5) and N Jackson (13), who were beaten on the count back.
Woodsome Hall, Bradley Hall and West End are the three clubs to qualify to enter four teams in next year’s Fourball Betterball Championship.
Union secretary John Lawrence said: “The day was successful, starting with the weather. All competitors arrived in good time, and the winners and runners-up recorded their scores early in the day and could not be knocked off the leaderboard.
“The competitors were all praising the greens when they came in.”
The event was sponsored by Kelcol Bedding Company.
