CONGRATULATIONS to Holland and Spain on reaching Sunday’s World Cup final.

I must admit my personal preference would have been for Germany to face the Dutch, just so the men in orange could get payback for 1974 when the best team in the tournament failed to win it.

But in truth the best two teams of 2010 are in the final and we get to have a new winner.

Prior to the South African tournament each nation was asked for a slogan to put on the side of their team buses.

The two finalists picked messages that perhaps showed their confidence and conviction, with the Dutch going for ‘Don’t fear the big five, fear the Orange eleven’, while Spain opted for ‘Hope is my road, victory my destiny’.

However, there were some belters elsewhere.

Brazil went for ‘The whole of Brazil is in here!’ which may have lost something in translation or they just expected it to be a very large bus.

The French went for ‘All together for a new dream in blue’.

I don’t suppose the organisers would have accepted the truthful version ‘In total disarray thanks to another Anelka nightmare’.

And I can only think that someone called Stavros running a chippy in Camden Town came up with the Greek legend of ‘Greece is everywhere!’
