HUDDERSFIELD continued their surge towards the Yorkshire Hockey League’s Premier Division title with a 8-1 victory over Leeds Carnegie’s second string at the Adel Memorial ground.

Huddersfield got to work with Peachey netting the opener. Mark Swinden made it 2-0 from the top of the ‘D’, and then scored his own second with a superb solo run which ended with a deft chip over the keeper.

Clem Gregory scored from a short corner and Courtney made it five before the break.

Both Peachey and Swinden found themselves in the sin-bin for a spell, during which time Leeds pulled a goal back before they lost a player to the bin.

In the second half Beatson had to leave the field with a knee injury, but still Leeds could not break down the visitors’ defence, and Huddersfield resumed their free-scoring approach with two goals from Durrans and a hat trick strike from Swinden.

Team: Howarth, Peachey, Swinden (M), Hannam, Beatson, Kelly (R), Gregory, Swinden (J), Hirst, Courtney, Durrans, Kaye.

Huddersfield III 3 Tadcaster Magnets 3

AN excellent game ended in a 3-3 stalemate which ended both teams’ chances of promotion.

Oli Durrant in the Huddersfield goal made several fine saves to deny Tadcaster before Lee Maddeford gave them the lead. The same player struck again from a short corner after a skilful run from Brett Kullar.

Magnets pulled one back before the interval, but the returning Gary Waterhouse, Chris Abbey and Luke Kelly had strong games in the midfield, and the latter found himself free in the Tadcaster ‘D’ and slotted home to give Huddersfield a two-goal cushion.

However, Tadcaster scored twice inside the last 10 minutes to earn a draw.

Team: Durrant, Mills, Taylor, Hamed, Kelly, Hindmarch, Waterhouse (S), Waterhouse (G), Kullar, Abbey, Swindells, Maddeford, Connell, Walker.

Lockwood Dragons III 4 Chapeltown II 0

CHAPELTOWN came to Lockwood Park in confident mood after recording five consecutive wins, but it was Dragons who opened the scoring, when young centre forward Isabel Dutton netted.

Dutton made it 2-0 after the restart when she fired home from the edge of the ‘D’ and, after beating two visiting players and colliding with the Chapeltown keeper, she managed to complete her hat trick, her first in open-age hockey.

Laura Bates rounded off the scoring with the fourth.
