A MOMENTARY lapse by Huddersfield Dragons allowed Northern to convert a flick and earn a 2-2 draw in their latest North Hockey League Division I clash.

The Crosby side had taken a first-half lead from an early short corner, but in the second half Rebecca Durrans struck twice, both from short corners to put Dragons ahead.

The Huddersfield defence held firm in the face of pressure from the Merseysiders, with keeper Ash Creedon making some excellent saves, and the home side began to lose their composure ending with one of their players being shown a red card.

But a late loss of concentration by Dragons robbed them of a deserved victory.

Huddersfield Dragons II 6 Leeds University II 8

THIS was a real end-to-end thriller, but unfortunately against a young Leeds outfit, Dragons came away without a point.

Leeds struck four times in quick succession before the Dragons got out of the blocks.

Liz Green set up Lisa Middleton for the first goal before adding a second herself and when Sarah Walters added a third, the Dragons were on their way back.

Leeds scored again before the break and added two more after it to extend their lead before Rebecca Hargreaves, Middleton and Green put Huddersfield back in the match. However, Leeds made the game safe with another strike late on.

Team: Townend, Di Napoli, Dunne, Tootell, Stacey, Monchuk, McEwan, Dobson, Hargreaves, Bagshaw, Middleton, Walters, Green.

Huddersfield Dragons III 1 Garforth I 2

GARFORTH are the current League leaders and were on the attack from the start, but were unable to breach the Dragons’ defence in the first half.

After the break Huddersfield hit back with a goal from Bland, but Garforth replied shortly after and then bagged a winner late in the game.

Team: Martin, McCullum, Hamer, Moorhouse, Gowing, Bates, Carter, Fielding, Bailey, Bland, Thomas, Clapham, Dutton.

MEN’S RESULTS

Gateshead 6 Huddersfield Dragons 4

ANOTHER trip up to the North-East, and sadly, another defeat, despite taking an early 2-0 lead with goals from man-of-the-match David Pemberton and the club’s top-scorer Jimmy Swinden.

Dragons then missed a number of chances to extend their lead and were made to pay as Gateshead struck three times in quick succession, leaving the visitors 3-2 down at the break.

More of the same followed in the second half, with Huddersfield wasting opportunities, while Gateshead netted twice more to extend their lead.

Pemberton added his second to keep Dragons in the hunt, but a sixth from the home side virtually sealed the result, although Craig Foster added a fourth before the close.

Team: Howarth, Hannam, Buckley, Swinden, Courtney, Gregory, Kelly, Keaveney, Lovatt, Pemberton, Swinden (J), Foster, Jackson.

Huddersfield Dragons II 5 Sheffield Uni Bankers 0

DRAGONS had the upper hand right from the start and the breakthrough came quickly through Lee, while Richardson netted a brace of goals, the second an excellent lob over the keeper’s head.

Sheffield looked dangerous on the break, but the Dragons defence were solid throughout and Cowden was rarely troubled in goal.

At the other end Shimmel and Durrans extended Huddersfield’s lead as Sheffield resigned themselves to defeat.

Leeds University IV 5 Huddersfield Dragons III 2

A MISHIT strike from Beaumont gave Dragons an early lead before Leeds hit back with two goals, both coming from sloppy work by the visitors. Aidan Blackburn levelled the scores from a penalty corner after Maddeford’s shot was blocked, but they were unable to hang on in the second half as Leeds poured forwards and scored three times late in the game.

Slazengers III 0 Huddersfield Dragons V 4

A DULL first half remained goalless despite numerous chances for Huddersfield, but the visitors made amends after the break with Justin Whittle grabbing the first goal.

Slazengers came back with a host of chances, but were denied goals by the Dragons keeper and Conrad Dales then crashed his first-time strike into the net.

Mike Pogson controlled the midfield and it was he who was next on the scoresheet before Josh Dwyer sealed victory with a shot into the roof of the net from a short corner.

Huddersfield Dragons VI 3 Wakefield VI 1

DESPITE torrential rain and a slowly-flooding pitch, Huddersfield’s sixth team dominated play throughout, taking the lead with a sweetly-taken flick by Foo from a short corner.

Huddersfield’s midfield of Burnip, Foo and Lees controlled play and when Wakefield were reduced to 10 men after the centre-back was yellow-carded, Fitzpatrick fired into the roof of the net for a 2-0 lead. Centre-forward Cook made it 3-0 after the break before Wakefield scored a late consolation.

Team: Canham, Turner, Barker, Brown, Burnip (C), Burnip (J), Lees, Foo, Shaw, Cooke, Fitzpatrick, Pimblett, Speck.
