HUDDERSFIELD Dragons second string went into their final game before Christmas looking to bounce back after the previous week’s disappointment at Grimsby and gave themselves an early present with a 3-2 victory over Rotherham.

Dragons opened well, moving the ball round with confidence and having most of the early possession took the lead when Craig Foster netted.

And it was the same player who extended Huddersfield’s lead when he crashed home from a narrow angle to put his side 2-0 up the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Dragons breaking from the back and James Dobson threaded the ball through skilfully to make it 3-0 at the far post, at which point the game looked over.

However, Rotherham came back hard in the last 10 minutes as the game became scrappy and pulled one back through a deflection, and then added a second almost on the final whistle.

Huddersfield II have now climbed to sixth in Yorkshire Division I after a slow start to the season.

The Dragons Under 16 girls side managed just a solitary goal in five games in their latest round of Yorkshire League matches.

They managed to earn a 1-1 draw with Adel in the final game of the series.

They did earn goalless draws against Selby, Halifax and Rotherham, with good work from their goalkeeper, but were outplayed totally by Slazengers who bagged five goals against them.
