IF ever there was a weekend the Dragons Ladies deserved points, it was this one.

But it wasn’t to be as they lost 2-1 at LA Carnegie on Saturday and by the same scoreline at home to Wakefield II on Sunday.

In the first game, Dragons produced their best first half of hockey in a long time, with Rebecca Durrans expertly capitalising on a rebound strike from Kelly Fillingham.

But the ladies couldn’t hold it together in the second half, so it was another no-pointer for the girls, and Sunday was a similar story.

Dragons took the game to Wakefield in the first half and took the lead with a cracking short corner strike from skipper Maddaford, but it wasn't long before the away side equalised with a short corner of their own.

The intensity dropped after the break and Dragons found themselves all sitting in their own half for much of the remaining time. A short corner gave Wakefield their second goal, and though this seemed to give the Dragons some fire, their intensity and effort in the last 10 minutes resulted not in a goal, but in disappointment yet again for a team who didn’t deserve what they got.

HUDDERSFIELD were under real pressure early on from a young, fit Sheffield side. However, a quick break saw Michelle Dexter go through and make no mistake.

Player of the match Lisa Middleton added to Huddersfield’s tally with a spectacular penalty corner and Nicci Bagshaw was next to add to the scoreline before Sarah Walters put away a reverse stick shot after fantastic linking between Leanne Monchuk and Mariella Dobson.

Eleanor Townend in goal denied Sheffield with an excellent save from a penalty flick, and Dragons went on to complete a fine win with Dexter adding her second and another from Dobson.
