LIZ GREEN bagged a superb four-goal tally as Huddersfield Dragons Seconds scored a 5-0 victory against Skipton I at Lockwood Park.

Huddersfield were in control from the start and dominated from the off.

The first goal came from a penalty corner with a cracking first-time strike from the prolific Green.

Lots more penalty corners were won and only the keeper’s efforts kept the total down.

A well-worked move enabled Green to add another to put her side 2-0 up just before half time.

After the break, Huddersfield stepped up a level and a well-timed run from half way resulted in Stacey scoring a super debut goal.

Green put another two in the back of the net, adding to her increasing season’s total.

Skipton had few chances and were never in a position to put the home defence under any pressure, the few shots that Skipton had were swiftly dealt with by star keeper Townend.

Team: Townend, Di-Napoli, Helmsley, Dunne, Stacey, McEwan, Bagshaw, Hargreaves, Middleton, Fielding, Dobson, Green.

Lancaster Ladies I 5 Huddersfield Dragons I 0

DRAGONS first team had a disappointing defeat in driving rain.

Huddersfield dominated play for the first 15 minutes but Lancaster remained dogged and used some fast play and smart passing to eventually score a deflection from a fast ball into the D.

Things didn’t improve for the Dragons in the second half. Michelle Dexter, joint player of the match, made some intelligent runs up front with Sarah Walters, but Dragons couldn’t convert the chances into goals.

Lancaster, meanwhile, continued to hammer the back of the net.

Laura Benson, other joint player of the match, worked tirelessly in defence, keeping out all but one short corner and never letting up, but the goals kept flowing.

Huddersfield Dragons Ladies III 5 Chapeltown II 0

DRAGONS were expecting to be tested when they met up with old promotion rivals Chapeltown but actually found themselves totally dominating play from the start to remain on course for a second successive promotion.

Hamer scored from the first penalty corner and Huddersfield dominated the rest of the half without scoring.

A change of playing formation in the second half seemed to be the catalyst for a goal flood.

Bland made it two with a fine reverse stick goal andŠthen three when Dutton provided her with a fine cross.

Dutton then added her ownŠwhen she made a fine run into the D and their fifth win in five weeks was settled with a fifth goal from Roberts, netting a rebound after Bland, looking for a hat trick, had hit a post.

Hamer and Fielding were the pick in a fine team performance.

Team: Creedon, McCallum, Hamer, Gowing, Morroll, Roberts, Bates, Bailey,ŠFielding,ŠBland, Dutton, Thomas

Whitley Bay & Tynemouth I 7 Huddersfield Dragons Men I 3

HUDDERSFIELD tasted defeat on the road in the North East for the second time, facing one of the two early-season pacesetters.

Whitley Bay opened the scoring and, with Hannam and Mark Swinden missing at the heart of the defence, it was always going to be tough.

It got even harder when Stuart Beatson was struck in the face while saving a shot and had to go to hospital.

Whitley Bay extended their lead with a controversial goal just before half time and then scored two quickfire goals early in the second half to make it 4-0.Š

The game threatened to boil over but this was Huddersfield’s best period as they scored through Jimmy Swinden’s powerful shot only for Whitley Bay to get a fifth.Š

Steve Durrans scored his side’s second and then had a shot rebound to Hirst who tucked away a final consolation goal as, by this time, Whitley Bay had put the game out of sight with two more goals.

Team: Cowden, Beatson, Buckley, Gregory, Lovatt, Keaveney, Durrans, Kelly, Courtney, Swinden (J), Hirst, Foster, Pemberton

Huddersfield Dragons Men II 3 Thirsk I 1

HUDDERSFIELD returned to winning ways after a week off.

Unusually, they were unable to create many clear chances, often losing composure and not waiting for the gaps to appear.

Deadlock was finally broken on 20 minutes when Clark found himself back to goal about 10 yards out, hitting a reverse shot that found the inside of a post before nestling in the net. It remained 1-0 until half time.

Huddersfield started the second half somewhat slowly and allowed Thirsk to equalise.

Huddersfield took the lead for the second time when a well-worked penalty corner resulted in Lee finishing from close in.

Richardson sealed the win when he found himself in acres of space and made no mistake.

McCallum and man of the match Lewis kept the opposition at bay.

Huddersfield Dragons Men IV 3 City of York VI 2

THE Dragons went one up inside 10 minutes after Andy Jackson linked up with man of the match Luke Kelly to set him up for his first goal of the day.

Soon it was two after Jackson, Chris Parkes and Kelly produced a number of quick passes to cut through the York defence and Kelly converted for his second.

York were able to pull a goal back before Kelly soon completed an impressive hat trick in what had been a scrappy but productive first half for the home team.

York changed formation in the second half and were able to pressure the Dragons goal, however James McPhillimy made some fine saves to keep the York attack at bay.

With 10 minutes to go York managed to score their second goal and pressed to draw level, but some clever time management by the Waterhouse brothers and Jackson saw the Dragons gain their second win of the season and move up the table.

Team: McPhillimy, Waterhouse S, Waterhouse G, Kelly, Parkes, Gardner, Whittle, Batty, Saxelby, Abbey, Jones, Jackson.
