HUDDERSFIELD Dragons Ladies Second XI finished their season in fabulous style when they secured promotion to the Yorkshire Premier Division with a 5–2 thumping of Tadcaster.

Having lost 3-1 to the Magnets earlier in the season, Dragons were ready for a duel in the sun and they commanded from the start.

Lisa Middleton was first on the scoresheet with one of her infamous runs into the D to slip the ball past the keeper with ease and then Nicci Bagshaw followed some fantastic play from defence through to midfield, before firing home the second.

Tadcaster never gave up the fight, but equally never really looked like extinguishing the Dragons fire and captain Leanne Monchuk put away Dragons’ third going into the interval.

The heat began to get to both teams in the second half, but Dragons never sat back on their lead and Rosh McEwan put away a fantastic goal which was closely followed by Bagshaw adding her second with another fine individual strike.

Tadcaster did put two away at the other end they were little more than consolations, as excellent defending from the home side defence, in particular player of the match Sally Dunne, ensured the visitors never really threatened a repeat victory.

Altogether an awesome season for the team who will now aim to breath some fire next season in the Yorkshire Premiership.

Broom I 4 Huddersfield Dragons I 0

THE last game of the season for the Dragons Ladies’ Firsts sadly mirrored so many of their matches this year with a 4-0 loss at Broom.

The home side dominated the first half, putting a lot of pressure on the Dragons who defended bravely until a goal that came from a sky-high miss hit made it 1-0 at half time.

Huddersfield failed to function in the second half, letting Broom score three more with little opportunity for hitting back. In the last 10 minutes the ladies applied some pressure and won a few short corners, but it was a case of too little too late for a team that never found its form.

MEN’S RESULT

Huddersfield Dragons IV 1 Harrogate III 2

THE final match of the season for the Fourths was less about the result and more about the players.

Four youngsters made their debuts with Jack Canham in goal, Ross Shaw in defence and Greg Cooke and Ali Chaman up front all performing very well against an experienced Harrogate side.

The game also marked the return of Dave Mills after two knee operations and a year on the sidelines, more amazing than his recovery was that he managed to avoid getting astro-burn for the first time in his hockey career.

The match was fairly well balanced game with both sides having opportunities, Harrogate converting a short-corner in the first half after Conrad Dales, Ash Cooke and Gary Clarke all had good chances well saved by the excellent Harrogate goalkeeper.

Man of the match Jack Canham was also having a great game in the Dragons goal pulling off some great saves, while the midfield of Walker, Connell, Dallas and Cooke fed a number of chances through to the forwards, although goals eluded them as the Harrogate keeper pulled out a string of fine saves.

Harrogate second a second on the counter-attack before Ali Chaman rounded his defender and struck from top D into the bottom corner five minutes from the end.

Team: Canham, Flavin, Pogson, Dallas, Mills, Shaw, Connell, Walker, Cooke A, Cooke G, Dales, Clarke, Chaman
