HUDDERSFIELD Dragons Hockey Club launch a new season this weekend – their first since the two Lockwood Park clubs merged.

And as a pre-cursor, the club organised an Open Day at Lockwood Park, when existing members turned out in force along with prospective new members.

Chairman Ben Lewis said: “We were delighted with the turnout which was phenomenal, and there was a real fun, family atmosphere to the occasion.”

The club are keen to develop their junior section this season.

They have appointed a Youth Development co-ordinator, Mariella Dobson, who is working closely with local schools, and the club are now looking for a Junior Development sponsor. Anyone interested is asked to email youth.development@huddersfielddragonshc.co.uk

The Dragons will be running three ladies teams, two of them in the Yorkshire League, while the first team will compete in the North Women’s League Division I.

Of seven men’s teams. the firsts last year won promotion and this season will be competing in the North Men’s League Division II East, starting tomorrow with a home game against Ben Rhydding. All teams, with the exception of the Ladies Firsts, get under way this weekend.
