FORMER players met to bid farewell to Salendine Nook Ladies Hockey Club after it was forced to fold.

Club officials took the decision after being unable to attract new players, and realising they would be unable to fulfil fixtures this season.

And the club held a ‘wake-party’ at the Heritage Mill Bar and Bistro at Wellington Mills, Lindley, to mark its passing.

The club was first formed in 1982 as the Salendine Nook Ladies evolved from Old Roydsians club which had been established in 1945.

The name change came from the change of venue for the club’s home games.

They played friendly games before joining the Yorkshire League when that was established.

While never reaching the higher echelons of the league competition, players of all standards enjoyed playing for the team, with the highlights playing in the York Rally tournaments in the 1970s, the Yvonne Horner Cup and, in later years, trips to the Veterans tournament in Blackpool.
