Huddersfield New College student Holly Horsfall stormed to victory in the ladies singles tennis at The College Sport National Championships.

The 17-year-old from Hepworth, a member of Thongsbridge Tennis Club who studies Sport and Exercise Science, did a fantastic job to win the event.

She played a round robin against top players from colleges across the UK, losing her first match to Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College 6-4.

Holly bounced back, however, to beat City College Plymouth in the semi-final, before taking on Wyggeston one last time and walking away the champion, beating her opponent 6-1.

The AoC Championships take place once a year and the event is one of the largest sporting events in England, involving over 1,800 students and 200 staff.

This year’s championship finals were held in Bath and were incredibly competitive.

Students from New College also took part in table tennis, squash, golf, cross country and badminton.

The College is well known for its sporting achievements. Details at
