AMIRA MELLOR (Holme Valley Wheelers) braved the wind and rain to win at the Hope Series Mountain bike race in Lee Quarry.

She took victory by over a minute from friend and rival from Bolton, Hot Wheels rider Martha Gill.

Amira is finding her form in time for the National Mountain bike championships on July 22 in Wasing, near London.

Holme Valley Wheelers’ 10-mile time trials continue to be popular and with some amazingly good weather on Wednesday evenings, the times have been dropping.

Latest winner once again was Alistair Wareham (Team Swift) in a fantastic time of 22-11. The 16-year-old Jacob Scott produced a personal best ride of 22-43, while third home was Alistair Hepworth in 24-12.

Gareth Owen clocked 24-22; Super vet Chris Harris had a brilliant personal best ride of 25-39 as did Johnnie Mclean, who improved by over a minute to clock 26-08.

Rachael Mellor (1st lady) posted 26-32, Gordon Moss 27-21, Lucy Farquhar rode another great personal best time of 28-42, David Rowlinson 28-50, Joe Williams 31-31 and Helen Bottom 33-51.

The Go Ride sessions for children aged 6-plus at Sands in Holmfirth on Monday evening (6.45pm to 7.30pm) continue to attract lots of youngsters.

On July 16, the Wheelers will run their second Go Ride Racing evening, at the same time, where children who have not tried racing on their bikes before can have a go at a variety of races on the grass – so all types of bike are fine and helmets are a must.

The Wheelers are also promoting a British Cycling Go Ride Games – Holme Valley Wheelers Games Celebration – part of the legacy from the Olympics, which will be on Tuesday August 14 (1pm to 4pm).
