Holme Valley rising cycle star Amira Mellor will warm up for her debut with Great Britain’s women’s elite team by competing in the final World Cup Series race in Hoogerheide, Holland on Saturday.

Mellor, the British Junior Cycle-cross champion, travels to in Tabor in the Czech Republic to compete in the World Championships on January 31.

The 17-year-old will race alongside national champion Helen Wyman, Nikki Harris and Under 23 rider Hannah Payton in the GB team.

“I am really excited about everything and I will be very proud to wear the GB kit once again,” said the teenager, who rides for the Bradford-based Paul Milnes RT club.

At Hoogerheide at the weekend Mellor faces the added challenge of starting at the back of the grid due to not having ridden all the World Cups events or many of the UCI races.

Her task will be to work her way through the field as soon as possible, but faces a huge challenge against some of the best riders around – including Olympic Road Race gold medallist and current World Cyclocross champion Marianne Vos.
