Holmfirth Badminton Club held their third annual Junior Christmas Badminton Tournament at Honley High School.

This was again a team event, Reds v Blues, where the championship silver salver and gold medals were played for.

The format was half-court singles “round-robin” with handicaps applied where appropriate.

The Blues won this time, after previously being runners-up in the first two years.

This year club coach Zainal Muhammad introduced the ‘Giant Cracker gold and silver awards’ for the top two juniors spots.

These were decided in a full-court singles competition (15 points, no-setting) between the team captains, Michael (Blue) and Helen (Red).

The teams cheered on as they witnessed a very close and high-quality match, with Michael just edging it at 15-14 with a good reply from Helen’s attack.

The traditional ‘Skills Achievement awards’ were also presented to four juniors who performed hand-eye co-ordination, speed and consistency disciplines leading up to the tournament.

Holmfirth BC will continue to run the junior club from January 13, 2014 (all enquiries to club secretary Janet Winn).
