Great Britain international rider Amira Mellor has returned to action and winning ways.

The 17-year-old New College student has been training hard since the end of her Cycle Cross season in February this year, when she finished a highly successful campaign with 27th place in the World Cyclo Cross Championship in the Czech Republic.

Mellor returned to competition in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10 mile Time Trial in Hull.

Despite a shortened warm-up due to a torrential rain storm, Mellor rode a personal best on the fast Yorkshire course – winning the women’s event and finihsing 41st overall in a time of 21 minutes 45 seconds – averaging 27 miles per hour.

Mellor then backed up the win in some style by taking victory in the Junior Women’s Nutcracker mountain bike race in the Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire.

The teenager is using these races as training sessions for her Cyclo Cross season, which will start in Las Vegas in September, but next weekend Mellor is both excited about riding her first road race for two years when she takes part in the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire.
