SECOND-PLACED Holmfirth A made sure Valley St James B had a miserable end to the Huddersfield Badminton League season.
The home side’s men set up the 6-3 victory, with James Biggs, Nick Weston and Zainal Mohammed putting Valley 3-0 down after the first section.
Valley Ladies then pulled a couple back as Jade Hildred, Lucy Ramsden and Alex Loy kept them in the match – Louise Pickett and Ann Sandiford being Holmfirth’s only winning pairing.
However, Biggs & Janet Mitchell took the first of the Mixed for Holmfirth, and Weston and Pickett then ensured victory for the home side before Andy Ward and Loy pulled another back for the visitors.
The result leaves Holmfirth secure in second place in Division I, but looking unlikely to catch Valley St James’ A team at the top.

Royds Hall lost two of their first three rubbers – but still took the contest with Holmbridge A 7-2.
Simon Booth and James Grist struck first for Holmbridge in the opening clash, beating Issy Caffoor and Ivan Lewis, and then Grist teamed up with Peter Miners to beat Lewis and Mike Lyne for another point.
But after that it was one-way traffic, as Royds’ Ladies took control to signal six rubbers without defeat!
