Brockholes billiards player Matthew Peaker enjoyed success on two fronts.

Peaker  was part of the Yorkshire team who won the English County Championships, and also won through to the last 16 of the north section of the English Amateur Billiards Championship.

At the county championships held in Nuneaton, Peaker was joined by Jonathan Bagley, from Leeds, and Wharefdale’s Steve Crosland.

Yorkshire came out on top of the 12 teams in the finals and started their run with an impressive aggregate win over Cornwall, who they beat 2-1.

Bagley won his match 468-66 and Peaker, who notched breaks of 53 and 50, was a 285-127 victor, while Crosland was edged out 212-180.

It took Yorkshire into the semi-finals where they faced holders Lincolnshire, who included current national amateur champion Rob Hall in their trio.

Yorkshire again managed a 2-1 win with Bagley 317-100 and Peaker 285-127 both winners, while Crosland gave a strong performance before being beaten 284-174 by Hall.

The final was against Derbyshire and again Yorkshire prevailed by a 2-1 margin.

There were wins for Bagley and Crosland, while Peaker lost out narrowly to David Rees.

Peaker then moved into the last 16 of the national individual competition as the highest placed runner-up from the qualifiers to reach the North region final next month.

The Brockholes player produced wins over York’s Terry Ward (577-243) and Harrogate’s Tim Godolphin (461-193), but was beaten 394-323 by Middlesbrough’s Darren Kell.

Kell went through as the first qualifier but Peaker’s aggregate of plus 531 was enough to book his place in the last 16.
