Tyrone Nurse may be seen as more of a boxer than a fighter.

But the Huddersfield ace is ready to do both when he aims for British title glory this coming Saturday.

Nurse takes on Welshman Chris Jenkins for the vacant light-welterweight belt on the Scott Quigg v Kiko Martinez show at Manchester Arena on July 18.

The showdown was postponed in April after unbeaten Jenkins pulled out through illness.

The Swansea star (16 wins, eight through knockout) says he’s ready to make up for lost time.

“I always feel confident that a fighter can beat a boxer,” said Jenkins, 26.

“I know what to expect and I’ll put the pressure on him. I’ll take him to places he hasn’t been before.

“I can tell he thinks he will simply just out-box me, but he is in for a shock.”

However Nurse’s trainer Chris Aston countered: “It won’t be that straightforward.

“Jenkins is tough and strong, and he thinks he can turn this one into a scrap.

“But Tyrone is maturing, and he’s been in with fighters of many styles.

“He’s slick, but he’s strong too, and if Jenkins tries to mix it up, he could have a surprise.”

Nurse, 25, takes a record of 31 wins from 33 fights (six by stoppage) into the ring. He has sparred highly-rated Russian welterweight David Avanesyan.

“The build-up has gone well,” added Aston.

“Avanesyan was tough, but Tyrone held his own.

“He’s sparred a wide range of people, and he’s in good nick.

“Now it’s about getting the job done when he gets in there on Saturday.”

The Sky bill also features Anthony Crolla’s bid to take Darleys Perez’s WBA world lightweight title and Sam Eggington v Glenn Foot for the British and Commonwealth welterweight straps.
