SCISSETT hockey star Joanna Leigh has earned her first England caps.

The 19-year-old was named as part of the England squad to play in the Investec Cup tournament held in Capetown, South Africa – and earned her first call to the full national side.

Leigh, who was a student at Repton School and is now studying at Bristol University, ended the trip to South Africa with five England appearances to her name having made her debut against the Olympic champions Holland.

It followed Leigh’s appearance last month in Australia for the Great Britain under 21 side in the Youth Olympic games in Sydney.

The GB team had a great tournament and defeated America to win the bronze medal.
