HUDDERSFIELD Rams Australian Rules Football Club are celebrating the selection of four of their players for the Great Britain national squad.

The four players are club captain Jason Battye, Matt Whiteley, Luke Booth and, receiving his first call up to international level, Graham Bickerdike.

They will play for the Great Britain Bulldogs in the two-game home and away series against the reigning International and European Champions the Irish Warriors in April.

The games are to be played at Surrey Sportspark, Guildford, and UCD Sport Centre in Dublin.

The four Rams representatives are members of the long-list of 35 players who are hoping to make the Great Britain European Championships squad when this is reduced to 26 players later in the spring.

Their performances against Ireland in the two-game series will go some way to determine their selection for this summer’s big international competition – the European Championships.

The European Cup will be held in Dublin at the start of August and will see eight countries compete against each other in 16-a-side competition in what is the most prestigious competition in Europe.

The Rams players will continue their training at Huddersfield YMCA every Tuesday in preparation for these international games and the start of their own domestic competition, AFL Central and Northern England, on the 20th April.

All new players are invited to join the training sessions and experiencing this fast paced and fast growing sport.
