AS SOMEONE who wants the good guys to win, I’m disappointed that world golf’s No 1 spot continues to elude Luke Donald.
He’s playing superb golf, yet just can’t take that final step that would see him claim the accolade of being the best in the business.
Twice now he has been in touching distance, yet Sunday’s defeat to Ian Poulter at the Volvo World Matchplay Championship kept him out of pole position in the rankings.
The only consolation is that another top bloke Lee Westwood is hanging on while a certain Tiger Woods has tumbled down the board to 11th.
Donald is the epitome of the English gentleman. He oozes calmness and class yet within that dignified exterior is a steely resolve that makes him better than the rest – well all of them but one for the time being.
Surely his turn will come.
