BRIGHOUSE-based karate instructor John Lowe has once again won the United Kingdom Traditional Karate Federation’s Senior Kumite title.

The fifth dan, who is chief instructor at the Brighouse TKF Club, first won the Individual Kumite category (freestyle fighting) in 1995, but has also since lifted the title in 2006 and 2007.

Lowe took up the sport in 1981 and has been teaching in Brighouse and Rastrick since 1995. He reached the fifth Dan level in grading exams in April this year.

As well as winning the Kumite title, Lowe also finished third in the Individual Kata and will be heading to Italy with the rest of the UK squad to take part in the 29th ITKF European Championships.

A member of the UKTKF international squad, Lowe has been entering world and European competitions since 1995, and has three team bronze medals.

Lowe last night started classes for beginners at Rastrick High. There’s another starting at Brighouse High on Monday. Both are 7.00 to 8.00.
