KIRKLEES boxing team are fighting in Cyprus.
The five-day trip, which started when they flew out yesterday, marks a return venture after the Cypriots took part in the Kirklees Youth Games at the Galpharm last year.
The nine-strong team from the Rawthorpe, Cleckheaton Police Academy and University of Huddersfield clubs, will compete in a gala dinner show in Limassol tomorrow.
Later in the week, they will visit the Troodos Mountains and attend a reception hosted by the Mayor of Limassol.
Rawthorpe ABC boxers are Sean Reynolds, Corey McCluskey and Tom Dufton. Fighting from Cleckheaton are Ivan Michaels, Michael Smith and Liam Walsh while the University trio are Adam Sykes, Adam Lindley and Ismail Anwar.
The team manager is Jim Beattie, the senior sports development officer for Kirklees Council, and the squad are being accompanied by Amateur Boxing Association referee and judge Eric Walker.
Each club has provided a coach – Mark Reynolds from Rawthorpe, Keith Tate (Cleckheaton) and Alan Haque (University).
The trip is subsidised by Kirklees Council, although each team member has contributed towards the costs.
Tyrone Nurse will present the trophies when the University of Huddersfield Boxing Club stage their first show in the sports hall.
The club are putting on 12 bouts on Thursday, April 23.
