MARSH Liberal Club’s Rob Armitage hit the top mark of the week, while Lindley WMC hit the top of the table after the latest series of Huddersfield Open Snooker League fixtures.

Armitage, playing off minus 45, and who was already just behind Robert Read with the second highest break of the season with an 80, compiled another fine knock of 70 during his victory over Meltham Liberal Club’s two-handicapper Malcolm Waddington.

And Armitage’s 97-54 win finished off a 4-0 whitewash for Marsh in the Section III clash.

Meanwhile, in the top flight, Lindley WMC A took over the top spot after beating Meltham Lib D team 3-1 to edge ahead of Broad Oak and Cowcliffe in the race to become the Gene Short Memorial Trophy winners as Premier League champions.

Andy Boothroyd, Rob Read and Haydn Corbett were all winners for Lindley, although unusually, none of the ‘big names’ made breaks of any significance.

Elsewhere in the League, Armitage’s break aside, the next best effort came from veteran Hillhouse & Birkby player Kevin Hirst who popped in a 42 break to beat Moldgreen’s Glyn Manson.

In the Huddersfield Billiards League, Springwood A leapt into pole position after inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on previous League leaders Lindley Lib A.

And there was also a surprising 3-0 reversal for another of the title contenders, Brockholes BC, who were thumped by Lindley Lib B.
