A LONGWOOD Harriers veterans quartet put on a strong showing at the “Full Bronte 5 miles” road race at Howarth – with Jim McCormack claiming a county title.

The first Longwood runner home at the event, which incorporated the Yorkshire Veterans Championships, was Donald Kennedy in 26th overall in a time of 32 minutes 25 seconds – which earned him second in the Men’s 45 and over section.

Next home in 39th was club president Ian Mitchell, whose 34.11 was enough to grab second in the Men’s 60-plus.

In 95th position was Karen Mitchell in 42.15, but unfortunately she was outside the medals in the Women’s 50-plus age group.

McCormack was 103rd in 43.15, but that was enough to secure the YorkshireVeterans 70-plus title.

Adam Gemili shattered both his lifetime best at 200m and Christian Malcolm’s 15-year-old championship record at the England Under 20 and Under 23 championships in Bedford.

The 19-year-old junior world champion and Olympic semi-finalist won in a time of 20.30 seconds.
