KIRKBURTON Karate Club produced a special reward for student of the year Kirstie Hanson.

A fan of Leeds United, Hanson was presented with her trophy by the Elland Road club’s manager Simon Grayson and she also met star player Jonny Howson.

The club also held their own presentation night where Mayor of Kirklees Eric Firth was the guest (pictured above).

The main prizes were won by Jodie Booth, who was top student in the senior section, and Trinity Thornton in the juniors, while the improvement awards were won by Anna Shaw and Jack Ridgeley.

The club also staged a sponsored fitness challenge in aid of Help For Heroes, which raised over £1,500, with students going through a testing circuit of exercises including press-ups, squat-thrusts and leg-raisers and the top performers were Jodie Booth (seniors), Cameron McCaffrey (juniors) and Reuben Midgley (beginners).
