THREE Huddersfield schoolboys have been picking up medals in taekwondo.
King James High School pupil Jack Lockwood won a silver at the Karlovac International Open tournament in Croatia, when his Quest teammates Alex and Tim Needham also took part.
Eleven-year-old Jack is a blue belt red tag and has been training for three and a half years.
In Croatia, he did tremendously well to beat a competitor from Iraq in the semi-finals and only just missed out on gold in the final.
Thirteen-year-old Alex and 11-year-old Tim, who both attend Kirkburton Middle School, did not make the medals in the tournament but fought well. Alex is a blue belt after two years in the sport, while Tim is a blue belt red tag.
At the Chi Open in Durham, Tim had three fights and won them all to take gold in the Under 33kg division.
Alex and Jack ended up fighting each other in the Under 45kg section, with Jack winning 11-10 after scoring a two-point hit in the final second of the match.
After a very close final, it meant he took the gold and Alex the silver, while the Quest team (from Rotherham) finished third. Alex had beaten a very experienced player in the semis and won on golden point.
