MORGAN TAYLOR has been voted Student of the Month at Huddersfield’s True Spirit Taekwondo Club.
It’s a notable achievement for the eight-year-old from Dalton because he’s been in the sport only nine months.
Morgan has just passed his green tag and is doing well.
Instructor Mark Bellanfante said: “Morgan is a real trier and he’s keen to learn.
“He has got to grips with everything, he is really committed and enthusiastic and he’s now starting to reap the benefits of all his hard work.”
Liam Tarandij, from Ainley Top, took part in the North West open judo competition coming away with a gold medal.
The 14-year-old fought in the under 38kgs 14-16 year old boys section, winning all three of his fights, his first forcing a submission from his opponent, his second throwing his opponent with a very fast drop seonage which is one of his favourite throws and then beating his last opponent in the final with a five-point score.
Tarandij has recently been selected for the England Talent Development Squad, which means he will be travelling abroad to compete and train at international level. Some of this is self-funded.
He is hoping to go to Japan and Russia to training later this year.
He is being helped by a local company Inspired-IQ and is looking for any other local companies to help.
His family and friends are holding a fundraising evening on Friday, April 16 at the Gas club, Huddersfield.
Tickets are £5 each and are available 0845 004 1325 or email Liam’s support team at Liam@inspired-iq.com
