CROFT produced a positive result for Netherton racer Josh Caygill.

In round three of the Fuchs Silkolene British Supersport Championship at the North Yorkshire circuit Caygill, who suffered crashes in the opening rounds at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park, managed to get over the line in 20th place.

“Croft was much kinder to me than the previous two rounds,” said the MAP Triumph team rider.

“The weather certainly made things a little more difficult with the majority of the weekend being damp.

“The weather did neither one thing nor another, leaving the track greasy and lots of varied tyre choices through the field.

“On race day, however, we saw the best of the weather and we had a dry race from start to finish!”

That suited Caygill who made an impact as he worked his way through the field from 28th on the grid.

“I worked my way up to finish 20th, catching and passing the leader of the Supersport Cup four laps from the end,” said Caygill.

“Myself and the team were pleased with the result, knowing that this is my first year in the Supersport class – an extremely tough learning curve.”

In the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship Jonathan Lodge had a mixed weekend, while brother James sat it out as his Frubob Kawasaki, which was damaged quite badly in a race accident at Oulton, was still without vital parts.

Technical problems ended with Jonathan outside the points in 17th place.

“I struggled a little in practice and qualifying, but some alterations worked well and I managed to finish the second qualifying in eighth, which put us on the second row,” explained Jonathan.

“The race was a bit of a farce, the weather was inbetween and basically we had the wrong tyre in the front as we got to the grid.

“It was totally the wrong choice as the rain stopped halfway through the race and I ended up going backwards to the guys that were on dry tyres.”
