Halifax rider Ben Hillam was on top form at the Spen Valley MCC’s Novice and Beginners trial at Pole Moor.

In the sixth event in of the RAS Sport Championship series, held at Rockingstones Quarry, Sherco rider Hillam won the championship course without conceding a single penalty.

He headed Huddersfield Yamaha rider Nick Eagleton and fellow Halifax contender Paul Haigh.

Ossett rider Mick Smith took the novice class, but was eclipsed by Barnsley youngster Aaron Goodlad by one penalty in the Youth class.

Liversedge Beta rider Keith Normington and Huddersfield’s Dave Robinson shared the top spot in the route A class by riding all thirty sections without fault.

Liversedge’s Helen Greaves won the Beginners class riding her Gas Gas machine.
