DENBY DALE teenager Jack Price impressed at the opening Kelcoat Winter Trials series in Mansfield.
He rode his Beta model to a very close second place in the Class A age group category in the YMSA Trials Championship event at Dudwood Farm.
The rider who was under pressure from Price was his 2012 Class A national rival Luke Walker, who knows just to what to expect from the Huddersfield Falcon member after their duels last year.
British trials champion James Dabill made one of his few Yorkshire appearances when he competed in, and won, the annual Ilkley New Year Trial at icy Dob Park riding his factory prepared Beta machine.
It was no easy ride for ‘Dibs’ on the 20-section course which took in Brown’s Wood and the adjoining Dob Park.
Haworth’s Xtreme Stunt Show Team member Dan Clark put Dabill under pressure through every section but dropped out.
West Witton’s Richard Sadler also posed a threat but the slippery conditions in Brown’s Wood caught the number one MRS Sherco team rider for a damaging five penalties.
Sheffield’s Dan Thorpe grabbed third place despite an injury that may keep him out of trialling for a few events.
Crossroad’s Phil Disney was always threatening and claimed fourth place in the championship class.
The Inter, Novice and Youth classes fell to Sam Yeadon, Ben Robinson and James Stones.
Falcon’s Ben Robinson won the Inter class on the hard course, while Falcon novice Martin Beardsall was six novice.
The top Falcon youth on the clubman course was William Tolson. In that class the Falcons scored club championship points as Ian Haigh led a quartet of members with Chris Greenwood, Chris Tolson and Chris Haigh all top 20 finishers.
