Price proves his worth with win

Motorsport: Denby Dale teenager Jack Price won the second round of the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds sponsored British youth trials bike championship event at Scarborough’s Low North Park, from MRS Sherco teammate Luke Walker. Price, current 2011 Class B champion, has been allowed to ride out of his age group by the Auto Cycle Union so his victory will have sent out shock waves to his rivals.

Four on board

SNOOKER: Rod Lawler, Joel Walker, Robbie Williams and Michael Wasley have won the final four places on next season’s World Snooker professional tour. The quartet earned two-year tour cards after winning the four places available at the final Q-School event.

Joy for visitors

SAILING: Visitors took the title as Scammonden Water Sailing Club hosted an Enterprise open day. Alan Johnson and Paula Fisher, of South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club and Southport Sailing Club, took first place overall after winning all three races. Second place went to Mark Lunn and Steve Blackburn, of West Lancashire Yacht Club, and third place was awarded to James Morley and Rachel Burtitt, of Ulley Sailing Club. The highest home boat was Mike Goodwin and Matt Bancroft, who came sixth overall.

Three new boys

Rugby Union: Wales caretaker coach Rob Howley has named a team containing three new caps for Saturday’s clash against the Barbarians in Cardiff. Scarlets full-back Liam Williams and prop Rhodri Jones are both handed first Test match appearances, together with 19-year-old Cardiff wing Harry Robinson.

National outing

Cycling: Holme Valley Wheelers riders Joe Williams and Amira Mellor competed in the third of the National Mountain Bike series races in Shropshire. Mellor rode well to take seventh place in the B category Under 16 girls race, while Williams was 25th in the B Category Under 14 boys event.

It’s only Olga

WRESTLING: Only one British wrestler will compete at the London 2012 Games after the British Olympic Association ruled that the sport had not reached the necessary standards. Wrestling had initially been offered three host-nation places but only Ukrainian-born Olga Butkevych, who received a UK passport in February, will represent Team GB in the women’s under-55kg.
