LEWIS HAMILTON enjoyed one of the high points of his career but for fellow British drivers David Coulthard and Jenson Button the rain-soaked race was forgettable.

Both Coulthard and Button retired after coming unstuck in the tricky conditions at the Northamptonshire circuit.

For veteran Scot Coulthard the pain of failing to reach the chequered flag in his final British Grand Prix was acutely felt after the Red Bull Racing driver confirmed he will retire at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old’s challenge was over almost as soon as it began when he collected Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Vettel heading into Priory on the first lap.
