Denby Dale’s Superstock 1000 racer Tom Tunstall brought his season to a close with another strong performance in the final round at Brands Hatch.

The British Superbikes Championship’s 2015 final brought another strong performance from the 34-year-old Doodson Motorsport rider who cut through from 19th on the grid to take 11th place and was only half a second off eighth at the final round at Brands Hatch.

Unsettled weather influenced the practice and qualifying sessions for the Superstock 1000 class with tricky conditions throughout on the popular Brands Hatch GP circuit and for Tunstall his frustration was clear after ending qualifying in 19th place.

“In the full wet conditions we had room for improvement with the bike set-up but with the drier track I know our pace was far better,” said Tunstall.

“The fast laps were always going to come later as the track conditions improved in qualifying, but I didn’t get a clear run and that gave me a lot of work to do in the race.”

With the track damp from overnight rain and taking time to dry predicting the conditions and therefore optimum tyres and bike setting for the 14-lap race was far from clear-cut.

Helped by the sun finally making an appearance, the decision to go for a fully dry setting was vindicated on the warm up laps.

Immediately getting to work and picking his way up the field Tunstall used his faster race pace to join a four rider tussle for eighth place, eventually taking the flag in 11th with only 0.5 seconds covering the quartet.

Despite a hint of frustration knowing he once again had the pace for better the Kawasaki rider was satisfied with his effort.

“I’m pleased with how I rode, my pace and the feeling on the bike, said Tunstall.

“We made the right calls as a team and bearing in mind the grid position and how close the class in to be fighting for eighth at the end is respectable.

“It’s been a rollercoaster year, we were in good shape from the start of the season but after getting knocked off in the first round and snapping my leg it wasn’t until I returned at the fifth race in June where our season really started.

“Even so I’ve really enjoyed racing this season and there are so many people to thank who helped make it happen.

“The support from my friends and family in our team has been unfaltering and combined with the loyal backing of all our team partners most notably Integro Doodson Insurance Brokers and Jemtech it’s been a fantastic journey ... one I hope to continue and build on further next year!”
