Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway started their new Northern League campaign with a home defeat.

The Firth Park team faced a strong Hull side and were beaten 82-66.

Hull fielded their main talent in former British champion Andy Angel and, with Heckmondwike without two of their senior riders, it proved to be a hard match.

In the junior match Hull failed to bring any junior riders handing the Heckmondwike team three instant league points .

Heckmondwike juniors challenge match scores were: Tom Whitwam 16, Will Naylor 13, Harvie Wells 9, Declan Summersgill 7 and Ben Summersgill 5.

Heckmondwike travel to Manchester on Sunday to face Astley and Tildsley.
