Holmfirth racer Joe Irving had a hit and miss meeting at Donington Park with a win and then a disaster.

The KTM Redline rider remains second in the Motul British Motorsport Championship after a double-header which saw him win the first race – which had been brought in to replace the lost round at Cadwell Park – but then in round nine he was out of the race on lap eight.

Irving now trails championship leader Jordan Weaving, who was second in race two and third in race one, by 34 points with three rounds remaining.

James Lodge, the twice British 125cc champion, may well have ridden in his last Superstock 600 race.

He bowed out with a 12th place finish at Donington and will now look to ride in the Supersport class at Assen in ten days time and could conclude the season at Silverstone and then Brands Hatch in the Superstock 1000.

“Qualifying was alright at Donington, but I wasn’t as high up as I wanted to be,” said Moto-Breakers Kawasaki rider Lodge,

“I qualified 10th but I felt could go faster, unfortunately it rained so I was 10th on the grid.

“In the race someone crashed on the first corner of the first lap, and by avoiding the incident it cost me about four places, I think I was about 14th after this but that was the least of the problems.

“Half a lap later I ran on at the chicane and that put me back in 25th place, so my aim now was to at least score some points.

“I spent the whole race slowly clawing back places, and by the last lap I was 13th. I made a lunge on the last corner and managed to secure 12th place, which wasn’t too bad considering.

“I’m not sure if I am finishing the season in the Superstock 600 class, I am hoping to ride a Superstock 1000 at Silverstone, and I’m riding in the Supersport class at Assen in a couple of weeks which I’m looking to greatly.”

In the Superstock 1000 race at Donington Denby Dale’s Tom Tunstall piloted his Doodson Motorsport Kawasaki home in 18th place and just two places behind him was Holmfirth’s Jonathan Lodge on his DiesoLiFT Unipart RailRacing Kawasaki.
