HUDDERSFIELD racer mark Davies was left in no doubt that he is in for a tough season of competition in the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup.
Having stepped up to the G55 class after winning last year’s G50 championship, Davies has also switched teams and his first outing with the Total Control Racing outfit certainly upped the ante.
Davies will have been delighted with his podium finish in the last race of the opening meeting on the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch, but will also be well aware of the benchmarks set by TCR teammates Carl Breeze and Jamie Orton.
Reigning Ginetta GT Supercup champion Breeze started his defence by taking an impressive win during the opening round of the 2013 season.
Orton took third for the Wednesbury-based TCR team in that race also celebrated podium success in race two finishing third again.
Davies had finished ninth and fifth in those two outings, but then finished in style with third place in race three.
Running in fourth early on, he moved into the podium positions on lap two and then ran in second for several laps before claiming a deserved third place.
TCR team principal Lee Brookes was delighted as all three of his drivers confirmed their front-running pace and championship credentials.
“We definitely showed we’re strong,” said Brookes.
“Jamie putting the car on pole was superb and Carl’s win in the first race was a great start for us.
“Even with everything that happened with the various incidents, it’s been a good meeting and to have Carl, Jamie and Mark on the podium at the first event of the year shows what we can do.”
